OEM Hardware Guidelines

Design philosophy: DASSET-powered Data Hubs should blend into everyday life. Like any home appliance, they should be attractive, quiet, and reliable.

Recommended Hardware Specifications

Processor:

  • AI-optimized chipsets with integrated GPU & NPU (e.g., Intel Core Ultra 7 series)
  • Discrete graphics optional but recommended if AI-optimized chipset not available
  • Accelerates AI operations like photo recognition and intelligent search

Memory:

  • Minimum: 4GB DDR5 RAM
  • Recommended: 8GB - 16GB DDR5 RAM
  • Advanced configurations: 32GB DDR5 RAM
  • Note: Performance and AI capabilities scale with RAM

Storage:

  • eMMC 32GB for DASSET OS image (system)
  • M.2 SSD or 3.5" SATA HDD for user data
  • Minimum: 2 drives for redundancy
  • Recommended: 4-8 drive bays for expansion
  • Support for LVM, RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 for data protection

Connectivity:

  • Minimum: 1x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet
  • Recommended: 2x RJ45 Gigabit Ethernet (redundancy & performance)
  • USB 3.2 ports (Type-A on front panel for easy access)
  • Thunderbolt 4 optional (front and back for high-speed data ingestion)

User Experience Features:

  • Quiet operation: Thermal-based, low-RPM fans
  • Tool-free maintenance: Easy drive installation/removal
  • Status LED indicators: Power, HDD activity, network status
  • Recessed reset button: Network configuration reset without full reboot

Why these matter:

  • AI chipsets enable local AI processing—key differentiator from traditional NAS
  • Multiple drives provide redundancy and performance
  • Quiet operation makes it suitable for home/office environments
  • Tool-free design reduces support burden

Product Architecture

Headless Design: DASSET-powered Data Hubs don't connect to monitors, keyboards, or mice. All interaction happens through client applications on users' existing devices.

Why this matters:

  • Lower hardware costs (no display components needed)
  • Smaller, more elegant form factor
  • Fits naturally into home/office environments
  • Users manage through familiar devices they already own

User interaction model:

  1. User installs DASSET app on phone, tablet, or computer
  2. App connects to Data Hub via Instant Connect
  3. User manages all settings and data through app
  4. Data Hub operates silently in background
